Salt doesn’t usually come to mind when you think of effective home beauty therapies. If anything, you tend to think of salt as a food additive to avoid for a healthy heart. In reality, however, salt can be great for the skin, hair, and even oral health. What follows are tips based on the beautifying effects of salt.
Get help fighting breakouts
If you have an unsightly pimple that you’d like to get rid of, salt can help. All you need to do is to dissolve a half teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and use a ball of cotton to dab the solution on the pimple. The salt will go to work on the blemish and reduce inflammation.
Style your hair with salt
Fill a spray bottle with water from the ocean, and spritz it on your hair before you style it. The salt and grit in ocean water can help your hair hold stylish waves. As unbelievable as it sounds, ocean water does work as an effective styling agent.
Salty ocean water can also help tone your skin. You only need to spray the water over your face, and then gently pat the moisture off with a towel.
Take a salty bath
A high-tech salt-based therapy exists in which molecules of salt are dispersed in the air in a room. Then you just sit in the room and enjoy the therapy, which is called halotherapy. You can try something much simpler at home, however. All you need to do is to dissolve a cup of salt in your bathwater before you soak in the water. It can help rejuvenate your skin and fight the bacteria that clog up your pores.
Use salt as an exfoliant
Take a tablespoon of salt, and add to a small quantity of olive oil to make a coarse mixture. Use it to gently rub over your face to exfoliate the skin without drying it. It’s important to remember that you need to use a gentle action. The salt crystals could cause skin abrasions if you aren’t gentle.
Use salt water to soothe the skin around the eyes
If your eyes are puffy after a long night, salt water can help take some of the puffiness away. Mix some salt in a cup of hot water, and wet a couple of cotton pads with the water. Place the cotton pads over the eyes for a couple of minutes to soothe the skin.
Use salt water to soak your feet in
Sometimes, pedicures can give you a cuticle infection on the toes. To prevent infections from occurring, dissolve salt in warm water and soak your feet in the water right after a pedicure. The salt can help keep infections from taking root.
Salt can be great for your breath
Mixing salt with baking soda in warm water is a great way to get clean, fresh breath in the morning. You don’t need commercial mouthwash products when you have salt.
Salt is an important ingredient used in many beauty products. You can, however, use salt directly at home for many of the same benefits that commercial products promise.
